My love and appreciation for teaching was ignited during my 9th grade English class due to my teacher. He provided the class with a foundational skils to excel in class, along with strategies to help us in our everyday lives. I studied Childhood Education and Development at Washington and Jefferson College. Upon graduating from W&J, I earned my Masters in Education from Slippery Rock University of PA. This is my 6th year as an educator and my 3rd year as a teacher here at Madonna. I am very excited to see the growth my students will make in and out of the classroom this year! 

• 7th and 8th Grade ELA:
  • In 7th and 8th grade, students will develop their reading, listening, and writing skills through various literary texts. Students also learn how to prepare a well-crafted speech to present to their peers during Public Speaking. We tackle grammatical and mechanical errors through mini lessons before we begin our writing units, which include Narrative, Persuasive, Informational, Argumentative, and Research Writing. 
  • 8th grade students read various novels such as The Hobbit by J. R. Toilken, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and The Diary of Anne Frank: The Play by Frances Goodrich.
  • 7th grade students read various novels such as The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, The Giver by Lois Lowry, and The Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
  • 7th and 8th grade students discover a love for Shakespearean writing through the plays Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet.
• 6th Grade Reading:
  • In 6th grade, students utilize the Wonders Curriculum, which implements lessons and activities that cover Reading, English, Writing, Spelling, and Vocabulary skills.  
  • 6th read various supplemental novels along side the Wonders program. Their texts include The Hunger Games by Suzzane Collins, Holes by Louis Sachar, and Hatchet  by Gary Paulsen. 
• Spanish:
  • Grades K-8 attend Spanish class twice a week.
  • We cover the basics of Spanish (numbers, colors, alphabet) to understanding Spanish pronouns to conjugating verbs.
  • We build upon our vocabulary from the year before. 
  • Spanish culture, history, and geography are covered in grades 6-8.
